The Mathematical Theory of Selection, Recombination, and Mutation by Reinhard Burger, The Mathematical Theory of Selection, Recombination, and Mutation R. Bü rger University of Vienna, Austria " It is close to being a masterpiece… could well be the classic presentation of the area." Warren J. Ewens, University of Pennsylvania, USA Population genetics is concerned with the study of the genetic, ecological, and evolutionary factors that influence and change the genetic composition of populations. The emphasis here is on models that have a direct bearing on evolutionary quantitative genetics. Applications concerning the maintenance of genetic variation in quantitative traits and their dynamics under selection are treated in detail.Provides a unified, self-contained and in-depth study of the theory of mutilocus systemsIntroduces the basic population-genetic modelsExplores the dynamical and equilibrium properties of the distribution of quantitative traits under selectionSummarizes important results from more demanding sections in a comprehensible wayEmploys a clear and logical presentation styleGraduate students and researchers in population genetics, evolutionary theory, and biomathematics will benefit from the in-depth coverage. This text will make an excellent reference volume for the fields of quantitative genetics, population and theoretical biology. Visit Our Web Page! http: //www.wiley.
Florida Scams by Victor M. Knight, Through the years, Florida has had more than its fair share of seams, cons, and con artists. Recently, elaborate scams have occurred (some successful, some not), and Florida's senior population has become an ever-growing target for con artists. During the 1950s and 1960s, Prince Michael of Austria dazzled the social elite of Ft. Lauderdale. In addition to actually knighting some of his new friends at cocktail parties, he would casually mention that his father in Austria, the king, had several exotic cars that he did not need anymore. He would offer to sell these to his friends -- at substantial savings, of course. Naturally, the cars were stolen, and the prince was anything but. Victor M. Knight was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and learned much about scams, and Florida's in particular, from his grandfathers. From this knowledge, he has formulated Grandaddy's Rules, which, combined with common sense, allow him, or anyone else, to detect even the best-planned scams. He is also the author of Vic Knight's Florida ($16.95), his first book published by Pelican.
